Breakout Sessions

Participants next reconvened into one of three breakout sessions. These were constructed to be working sessions to provide further input into the development of priorities for action. The breakout sessions included-
  • Prevention
  • Disease Management
  • Policy/Advocacy

A series of questions were to be covered in the breakout sessions -
  • Where does the group think we should begin to take action - what are the priorities for action?
  • Where are the opportunities for partnership to implement these action steps?
  • What are the possible barriers to success and how can we overcome these?
  • For the Policy Breakout Group, what can ethnic physicians and ethnic physician organizations add to the policy arena?
  • For the Prevention & Disease Management Breakouts - Are there opportunities for policy development?

The most important outcome for the breakout sessions was to establish a prioritized list of actions and opportunities for partnership to address racial and ethnic health disparities in the area of type 2 diabetes.
