Projects of the Network of Ethnic Physician Organizations

Below are a list of different Network of Ethnic Physician projects. Click on the title to view.

  • Cancer Screening Project
Survey Finds Ethnic Californians Lag Behind in Cancer-Screening - Ethnic Physicians and the Ethnic Media Team Up to Raise Awareness
  • Health Disparities Action Plan - Type 2 Diabetes Focus
The Network of Ethnic Physician Organizations [NEPO] health disparities action plan provides a framework that gives voice to communities of color to address health disparities and provides a vehicle for ethnic physician leaders to address these issues.
  • Diabetes Health Disparities Convening Report
Ethnic physicians and their organizations play important roles in promoting the health of diverse communities. Minority physicians are more likely to practice medicine in communities with a higher percentage of ethnically diverse members. While most minority patients in California still receive care from a health provider of a different ethnic background, minority physicians in California often provide a bridge to greater language and cultural understanding between their colleagues and their communities. Ethnic physicians have a high level of credibility within their communities. In addition, they are credible spokespersons to the media, policy makers, and opinion leaders. They can take complex issues such as health disparities and make them come alive with illustrations from their own practices and life experiences.
  • Quality Improvement in Solo and Small (QISS) Group Practice Project
The California Medical Association (CMA) Foundation and the Network of Ethnic Physician Organizations (NEPO) embarked on a two-year study learning how solo/small group practice primary care ethnic physicians served safety net communities; the success they have achieved, the challenges they face and what lies ahead for these communities as solo/small group practice ethnic physicians either leave their communities or retire.  With support from The California Endowment, the CMA Foundation and NEPO undertook the QISS Project – the Quality Improvement in Solo/Small Group Practice Project.  The purpose of the QISS Project is to ensure access to care for safety-net communities through the formulation and implementation of strategies to support the sustainability of primary care ethnic physician solo and small group practices.
