D. Presentations and Updates

1. Russell Bennett, Vice President, Latino Health Solutions - PacifiCare

"The official population estimates now indicate that the Hispanic community is the nation's largest minority community. This is an important event in this country - an event that we know is the result of the growth of a vibrant and diverse population that is vital to America's future." Louis Kincannon, Director, U.S. Census Bureau.

Mr. Bennett discussed the Latino Health Solutions (LHS) initiative of PacifiCare. He identified the goal of the initiative as:

To develop a strong, sustainable, profitable business with a loyal and expanding client base within the Latino community, PacifiCare needs to transform itself.

He reported that PacifiCare sees LHS as a key to its commercial growth. LHS is designed to retain, acquire new, and manage the health of Latino members. LHS will:

  • Operationalize the company to serve present Latino members (retention), and as a platform upon which to create & service new products.
  • Develop a "new face" (a Spanish interface) for existing products; then develop new products. Differentiate products via health education and enhance Latino-focused physician services.
  • Promote PacifiCare to the Latino market through advertising and community outreach.

Mr. Bennett described a variety of LHS Spanish language products, education material and marketing tools for Spanish speaking members that include:

  • Website: www.pacificarelatino.com
  • Single, toll-free, customer service number 1 (800) 730-7270
  • Health education and value-added programs
  • Member materials
  • Supplemental Spanish-speaking Physician Directory
  • Health Risk Assessment/Health Habits Survey: "Evalue su Salud/Evaluate your Health"
  • A community outreach component
  • Products for Spanish-speaking seniors
